John Dee’s talismans are available for inspection at the British Museum. Born in London on 13th July 1527 John Dee became astrologer and witch to Queen Elizabeth 1, he was also an alchemist and magician. Dee wrote 79 occult manuscripts but only the first few were published - Dee allegedly influence Shakespeare enormously.
Dee met John Kelly an Irish magician and together they summoned spirits using the secret occult language Enochian. Dee and Kelly then spent 4 years travelling doing readings for Royalty. Upon Dee’s return home Elizabeth 1 died and her successor James 1 opposed magic and Dee was forced to retire, he died in poverty in 1608.
